A: Aluminum is a material that is easily modified. The edges can be of the carb. shield can be trimmed or tweaked to fit custom layouts. Obviously cutting large holes or reducing the shield area an excessive amount will impact how effective the shield is.

A:The bottom of the arm on a Holley accelerator pump hangs below the baseplate, which creates an interference with most carb shields. Ours has a clearance slot to avoid any interference.

A:Our shields are produced from .063 aluminum. Thinner shields are not as effective because the thicker material performs better as a heat sink. Besides shielding the intake manifold heat from the float bowls, the shield also draws heat from the carb baseplate and then acts as a radiator fin to dissipate the heat into the air away from the carb. Thinner shields have less mass and therefore, less capacity. The added bonus is that the thicker shield does not get accidentally tweaked when you are bending wrenches.
